Texas Tech started the second half with the ball but fumbled the kickoff to the Spartans. Five plays and 26 yards later, Keith Nichol rushed for a 7-yard touchdown and the extra point gave MSU a 21-20 lead.

With 6:32 to play in the third, Potts threw his second TD pass, this time a 14-yard pass to Jacoby Franks, to put Texas Tech up, 27-21.

The Red Raiders, led by interim coach Riffin McNeill, got on the board first after intercepting Cousins during MSU’s first drive. Batch scored on a 3-yard run on the ensuing drive. Later in that quarter, Baker answered with a 46-yard scoring run to tie the game.

Less than a minute into the second, Matt Williams booted a 21-yard field goal. Three minutes and 10 seconds later, after a Spartans three-and-out, Taylor Potts hit Lyle Leong for a 2-yard TD pass. Texas Tech then led, 17-7.
