British conurbations’ actual sizes revealed…

The satellite photo showing Britain completely covered in snow that has been much seen recently also happens to reveal the size and extent of many of the major urban areas. Normally, satellite images don’t clearly differentiate urban from rural, but the presence of unbroken snow on non-built areas essentially acts as a filter…. rural = white, urban = grey.

London and parts of the east and south coasts are obscured by cloud. However, the city regions of Britsol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, GLasgow and Edinburgh are clearly visible. As are places like Telford, Chester and Preston.
