Nintendo’s “fad” dominates Sony, Microsoft in December




The NPD Group has released its monthly report, and with the December sales information comes the end of the year. How did the industry do? With $10.5 billion in sales, video gaming shrunk 11 percent from the $11.7 billion generated in 2008. It’s not all terrible news, however.

“When we started the last decade, video game industry sales, including PC games, totaled $7.98 billion in 2000,” said Anita Frazier, industry analyst with The NPD Group. “In ten years, the industry has changed dramatically in many ways, but most importantly it was grown over those years by more than 250 percent at retail alone.”
