A freezing fog advisory has been issued across the Chicago metropolitan area and beyond until 10 a.m.
Dense fog may freeze and cause slippery conditions on roadways–especially bridges and overpasses– for the rush-hour drive, according to the National Weather Service. Drivers were urged to slow down and allow extra space between vehicles on the road.
The advisory is in effect for Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Will and Winnebago counties.
Fog is expected to clear this afternoon, according to the weather service. Today’s temperatures will reach into the high 30s.
So far, roadways are clear, according to Illinois State Police.
