I find that I have MUCH better accuracy with the CGMS if I’m well-hydrated. Prior to my pregnancy I had great accuracy with the sensors, but then after my daughter was born it really went downhill! I couldn’t figure out what was different, but my CDE suggested that hydration might be a factor since I’m breastfeeding and often less well-hydrated than I used to be as a result (I have trouble keeping up with the water intake). Since then I’ve really watched how accurate my readings are according to how much fluid intake I’ve had and it really does seem to make a significant difference for me.
I don’t know if this will be the case for everyone (probably not), but I thought if there are some of you out there who are frustrated with CGMS accuracy lately, this might be worth a try…drink more! (Ahem…water, that is.) If it works it works, and if it doesn’t, you haven’t lost anything other than maybe the time it takes for a couple more trips to the bathroom!
I suppose it makes sense given that the CGMS relies on interstitial FLUID to give its readings…but who knows. It’s working for me! I’ve got fantastic accuracy now and am LOVING my CGMS again!
