A man believed to be visiting Chicago on business apparently drowned Thursday evening in a swimming pool at a Northwest Side apartment complex, Chicago police said.
Ashish Kumar, 25, who was staying at an apartment in the 5400 block of North East River Road, was found at the bottom of the complex’s pool under 8 feet of water about 6:40 p.m.
He was pronounced dead at 7:36 p.m. at Resurrection Medical Center, said a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police said his death appeared to have been accidental, but that will be determined officially this morning during an autopsy at the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police said surveillance video footage in the pool area showed Kumar “splashing” and “trying to get to the side of the pool, but (he)didn’t make it.” Police also said he was alone in the pool area at the time.
Kumar’s home address was not immediately available this morning, but police said he was in Chicago on a business trip.
