Birmingham has a rish wartime heritage, from the first skirmish of the civil war in Curdworth, to the seige of Birmingham and the blitz.
I thought it’s be a good thread to show and tell pictures and stories.
One thing I always wondered is Birmingham preparedness for war. Like all local authorities in UK they operate a Gold, Silver, Bronze command system which will no doubt be in a command centre (possibly a bunker of sorts).
I always wondered if Birmingham had a system of air raid sirens. I remember a few years back I heard on in Walmley, but could not pin point it’s location – not to mention that it could have been a transportable Carter siren (made by Gents of Leicester). Does anyone have any information?
