PETA Attacks Groundhog Day Tradition

PETA thinks Punxsutawney Phil needs a break from the lights, camera and petting. On The PETA Files, they’ve proposed retiring him and replacing the living icon with a robotic groundhog.

groundhog-day

Yes. At a time when so many animals are suffering, PETA wants us to feel sorry for the most lucky groundhog in the world. I love what commenter 4mula1 at The PETA Files replied, “…we will not be turning groundhog day into a trip to chuckycheese so everyone can see a robotic dancing critter.” Another commenter called Cody wrote, “All other groundhogs…I bet they like getting shot at in farmers fields and being roadkill.”

PETA loves publicity stunts, it seems. They’re realistic enough to realize that their plea for Phil’s retirement will only result in news stories. They’re either not being genuine, or they’re more off their rockers than I’ve thought in the past. Either way, I wish the group would focus more on real animal cruelty, like dog fighting.

What do you think of PETA’s request for Phil to retire from his Groundhog Day duties?
