OLYMPIA FIELDS — An Olympia Fields house was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours Wednesday.
The fire broke out in the front section of the two-story frame dwelling in the 2400 block of Vollmer Road, in the south suburb, Matteson Fire Chief Patrick Gericke said.
The owner of the house was the only one home at the time of the fire. He escaped without injury and refused treatment, Gericke said.
The call came in just before 1 a.m., but the house was well involved by the time firefighters arrived. Gericke said snow on the road slowed efforts by firefighters getting to the scene.
There is fire damage throughout the house, which is uninhabitable, Gericke said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
