Parents Television Council Disturbed By Stern On “Idol” Rumors

Kara and Ellen aren’t the only entertainment notables having a cow over rumors that American Idol producers are courting shock jock Howard Stern as a replacement for British mogul Simon Cowell. The Parents Television Council (PTC) wants some straight talk from FOX about whether or not they intend to put Stern on the judging panel.

In a statement issued Wednesday morning, PTC President Tim Winter blasted the network for not putting the kibosh on the Stern rumors:

“Given American Idol’s extreme popularity with family audiences, I hope that Fox will put the rumors to rest and announce that it has no intention of adding to the show one of the most profane, sexually-explicit and anti-family performers in the history of the broadcast medium – either as a guest or as a judge.”

Late last year, The PTC also took The CW to task over a threesome-themed episode that aired on the network’s teen drama Gossip Girl last fall.
