David Canary Leaving “All My Children”

Longtime All My Children star David Canary is leaving the daytime soap.

Canary, who has won five Daytime Emmys for his portrayal of devious businessman Adam Chandler and his good-natured twin Stuart, has opted not to renew his contract with AMC. The move comes just months after producers announced plans to abandon shooting in New York City and move the show’s production to Los Angeles, TV Squad said Monday.

“Losing Canary is a major blow. He is not the kind of actor who can be replaced with another star. That doesn’t mean the soap won’t try, but the scuttlebutt is that when David stops shooting in March, Adam will leave Pine Valley alive. As such, the door will be left open in case Canary changes his mind or chooses to return for a visit … maybe even an extended visit that would be a story arc?”

Canary has been a regular on All My Children since 1983.
