Downtown Elgin bank robbed

Elgin police and the FBI are investigating a bank robbery in the city’s downtown Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the Chase Bank at 24 E. Chicago St. just after 2 p.m. Details on the robbery were not immediately available Friday.

Lt. Tom O’Herron said police are working to identify a possible subject and continue to interview bank staff and patrons.

It is not known if the subject displayed a weapon or presented a note during the incident, O’Herron said.
