CHICAGO (WBBM) — The IRS is now staffing five offices throughout the state on the weekend to provide help to people with tax questions, especially taxpayers hit hard by the economy.
A spokesman for the IRS says individuals may be eligible for tax credits or deductions that may help them save money on their taxes this year, including the earned income tax credit if there was a decline in income or change in marital status.
Also under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, taxpayers with three or more children get an extra boost with a larger credit this year.
And the IRS says taxpayers who aren’t able to cover their full tax bill by April 15 can arrange for a payment schedule or extension.
The IRS has offices locally including:
Chicago – 230 S. Dearborn Street
Orland Park – 14479 South John Humphrey Drive
Schiller Park – 5100 River Road
These offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
