CHICAGO (WBBM) — If the Winter Olympics have inspired you to try skating, the city of Chicago is offering free lessons on the weekends through the end of the month at one of its most popular rinks.
The rink in Millennium park is crowded on a Saturday morning with new skaters learning how to stop, get up from the inevitable fall and safely turn.
The city is offering free lessons from 8 until 10 Saturday and Sunday mornings and holding ice dance parties and demonstrations Friday and Saturday nights.
Eva Silverman with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs says interest in the free lessons has picked up recently and she attributes that to the Olympics.
Skate rentals cost $10.
If ice isn’t your medium, the city is also offering free dance lessons on the stage of the Pritzker Pavilion weekend afternoons.
Hour-long lessons followed by two hours of open dancing are conducted behind large glass doors that offer warmth and views of the park.
