Three JS area wrestlers in finals

Three Journal Star area wrestlers will compete for titles after semifinal victories Saturday morning at the individual state tournament at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

Washington sophomore Dylan Reel advanced to his second consecutive final with an 11-7 decision against Champaign Central’s Adam Acheson in the Class 2A 160-pound semifinals.

Top-ranked Reel (45-1) faces Richmond-Burton’s Jack Dechow (43-5) in the finals, scheduled to begin with the Grand March at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Macomb junior Austin Miller also will be making his second appearance in a final after pinning No. 2 ranked Cory Davidson of Litchfield at the 3:58 mark of the second period, in the Class 1A 130-pound semifinals.

Top-ranked Miller (27-1) faces Coal City’s David Hanley (33-6) in the finals.

Canton senior Zach Wiedeman became the first Little Giant grappler to reach the finals since 1987 when he decisioned Byron’s Andy Smith, 5-1, in the Class 1A 135-pound semifinals.

Wiedeman (36-3) takes on Dalton Brown of Shelbyville (38-1) in the finals.
