CHICAGO (CBS) ― A Chicago police officer was hospitalized early Monday morning after a police squad car crashed into a tree along southbound Lake Shore Drive.
The officer was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Chicago Tribune. The officer’s condition is unknown.
The car apparently crashed into a tree in the median along Lake Shore Drive near Irving Park Road at about 5:15 a.m., police said.
Police shut down all four lanes, forcing traffic off at the Irving Park exit, police said. It is not clear when lanes will reopen.
Police and firefighters were on the scene.
