CHICAGO (STMW) — Police have released a description of the car that struck and killed a woman in a hit-and-run accident in the South Side Hamilton Park neighborhood early Tuesday.
The victim was struck by a vehicle about 5:30 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Halsted Street and pronounced dead at Saint Bernard Hospital, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office was unable to confirm the death Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s or 40s, was struck by a white or light-colored sedan, possibly a four-door Buick Regal or Century, which then fled east on 69th Street, according to police. The car is thought to have front-end damage.
Police have issued a community alert about the accident, with two photos of cars similar to the one involved.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
