Miss Patti is “too through” with this Idol thing….Singing legend Patti LaBelle has some sharp words for some folks affiliated with American Idol — and she’s not talking about the contestants. LaBelle slammed the nation’s most watched TV talent show in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, confessing that she believes “some of the judges” lack the qualifications to judge a singing competition on national television.
Shots fired! (Grabs popcorns and waits for drama to unfold…..)
“Some of the judges, I don’t think they’re qualified to even judge,” Labelle — who has been singing for nearly half a century — snipped. The veteran R&B diva wouldn’t say which judge she thought was lacking on the hit show, which has launched the careers of several of America’s top singers.
When asked if she thinks some of Idol’s critiques are a bit too harsh on contestants, the “If You Asked Me To” powerhouse replied: “The comments that were made, they could make you like wanna kill yourself….”
Patti also revealed that she was asked to be a judge on the show before ex-panelist Paula Abdul got the gig in 2002.
Despite her take on the perils of Idol, the 65-year-old has some useful advice for aspiring singing stars: “If you believe in yourself, just go for it. What do you have to lose? And when people tell you ‘You can’t,’ you have to say, ‘I can.’”
