Elliott Yamin Trapped In Earthquake-Ravaged Chile With Limited Diabetic Supplies

Oh no! Former American Idol Elliott Yamin miraculously survived Saturday’s shattering earthquake in Chile, but if he has to stay in ravaged region much longer, the diabetic crooner could face a serious health crisis.

Yamin called into Good Day Los Angeles on Tuesday, where the Idol alum revealed that he’s desperately searching for a way out of South America as he runs out of the diabetic supplies that help keep him healthy.

“I am a Type 1 diabetic and I only packed enough insulin supplies for my pump to last a couple more days, so I’m starting to worry. I don’t know how long we’re going to be here. This country isn’t very keen on insulin pumps; supplies for my pump are running low. Hospitals here are very crowded, and as you can imagine, they are dealing with bigger thing,” Elliott explained. “I hope to get home before I slip into a diabetic coma. That would be nice,” he added. “I’m trying to be positive..”

Yamin had just returned to his hotel after finishing a performance as part of a singing competition festival in Vina Del Mar, Chile, when he felt the magnitude 8.8 earthquake which hit the South American country just after 3 AM local time on Saturday. For the singer, the shock is just beginning to set in:

“Good morning world!… still stuck in Santiago, with no clear idea as to when we get out.. decided 2 stay put.. embassy says not to go to Mendoza … I think I’m starting to have post traumatic stress, as I reflect on where I’ve been over the last 2 weeks, and what I’ve been thru.. although I’m safe, alive, and well, still experiencing aftershox, and will be restless until I touch down on American soil…..” a despondent Elliott Tweeted this morning.

Elliott finished third on the fifth season of American Idol. Best wishes to Elliott. We hope someone can get him the supplies he needs.
