Our client is one of Europe’s Leading engineering and consultancy organisations. They employ around 1,300 personnel between its offices in Ireland and abroad. They build, own, and operate power stations and wind farms, and also provide a full range of engineering and consultancy services to clients in the power sector worldwide. They also provide consultancy services to non-utility Clients.

General: Our Civil & Structural Engineering Department wish to recruit an experienced Professional Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will join the existing Geotechnical team in providing a wide range of geotechnical services to in-house Civil & Structural Design and Construction Teams, Project Inception and Investment Teams, Due Diligence Teams and Dam Safety and Monitoring Teams. Overseas short assignments are a feature of the position.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role will include:
• Provision of strong geotechnical technical expertise and leadership.
• Design Lead, Supervision and Approval of Detailed Geotechnical Designs and Analyses of foundations, retaining structures, ground improvement schemes and groundwater control systems.
• Interpretation of ground conditions and geotechnical design parameters.
• Development of Project Geotechnical Risk Registers including Mitigation and Response Plans.
• Failure Investigations, Analysis and Reporting.
• Slope stability analysis in soil and rock
• Dam and Embankment Stability Analysis and Monitoring
• Soft ground (incl. peat) Engineering
• Earthworks Designs for Roads
• Initial Desk Study and Walk-over Site Evaluations
• Implementation of Procedures relating to investigating & dealing with contaminated land.
• Lead in the Preparation of SI Tender and Contract Documentation, Tender Evaluation Reports and Contract Award.
• Manage & Interpret Site Investigation Contracts incl production of SI Interpretive Reports
• Effective Management of Resources
• Preparation of Technical Reports.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
• Familiarity with Applicable Codes and Standards and Industry best practice (including introductory knowledge of Eurocode 7)
• Experience with Soil Mechanics Computer Analysis and Design Packages (e.g. Plaxis, Slope, SID, etc.) including experience of finite element modelling and analysis techniques and software.
• Experienced in working with a wide range of soil types including peat and karst ground.
• Knowledge of recent relevant Research/Developments in Geotechnical areas pertinent to our business..
• Excellent Communication and Teamworking Skills
Qualifications/Experience
• Recognised Primary Degree in Civil Engineering
• Recognised Post-Graduate Degree in Geotechnics/Soil Mechanics
• Chartered Membership of a relevant geotechnical institution.
• Minimum 7 Years Relevant Experience
