First Lady Michelle Obama Donates Inaugural Gown To Smithsonian

First Lady Michelle Obama headed to the Smithsonian on Tuesday to donate the gown she wore to last year’s Inaugural Ball.

I’ve never liked this dress, but Mrs. Obama continues a long tradition of First Ladies who have donated their inaugural gowns to be on display at the world-famous Smithsonian. So kudos to her. Obama’s gown — a one-shouldered, white chiffon number designed by Taiwanese fashionisto Jason Wu — will be the new centerpiece for the museum’s popular “First Ladies of the Smithsonian” exhibit.

The new A First Lady’s Debut gallery will include 11 gowns worn by First Ladies from Mamie Eisenhower to Mrs. O. The two galleries that make up the Smithsonian’s First Ladies exhibition will feature a total of 24 dresses and more than 100 other artifacts.
