“Telephone” VIDEO Banned By MTV?

All that Gaga touches isn’t gold, and the pop hitmaker’s “Telephone” is getting a dialtone from MTV — at least that’s the story CNN is telling.

On Sunday, the ratings-starved cable news network issued a report claiming “Telephone,” the popular video collaboration featuring two of the biggest names in music, Lady Gaga and Beyonce, has been banned by MTV for its “raunchy provocativeness.”

Are we talking about the same network that airs Jersey Shore?

MTV, on the other hand, denies that “Telephone” has been taken out of rotation. Network bosses promptly issued a series of Tweets ensuring Gaga fanatics that the video has not been banned from MTV:

“The report is false..we’ve been airing it on amtv since friday morning and we’re not douchebags (or sexist)….”MTV’s Manager of Programming, Tuma Basa, wrote on the network’s Twitter page early Monday.

Well, that about sums it up.

(We’ve been hard-pressed to take CNN’s word for anything ever since they fell for that 100-year-old Coney Island hot dog hoax last month….)

The extravagant “Telephone” video — an tribute to director Quentin Tarantino — premiered online on Thursday and by Sunday had already been viewed more than 11 million times on YouTube. In fact, “Telephone’s” already well on its way to surpassing YouTube views for Gaga’s popular “Bad Romance” video, which has been watched more than 140 million times since last summer.

Directed by Jonas Akerlund, who also helmed the Grammy winner’s “Paparazzi” video, the controversial new video begins with two bra-flashing guards escorting Gaga to her prison cell as an audience of incarcerated girls looks on seductively. The next nine-and-a-half minutes are filled with tons of profanity, nudity, murder, and mounds of product placement.
