This week, the American Society of News Editors is promoting "Sunshine Week," a nationwide effort to boost awareness and the need for increased access of public information.
The organization’s primary mission is to enhance Freedom of Information Acts (FOIA) throughout the nation. In essence, they encourage efforts to shed light on government action and proposals for every willing citizen to view. Last year, the Illinois General Assembly passed substantially stronger FOIA laws for our state. The legislation was part of a significant reform package led by Senate Democrats aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in our state’s government.
