The world still hates Brenda Walsh.
“Dancing for her father” couldn’t save former Beverly Hills, 90210 baddie Shannen Doherty from the ballroom guillotine during the first elimination show of the 10th season of Dancing With The Stars. Pamela Anderson and partner Damian Whitewood were part of the bottom three couples, along with Kate Gosselin and Tony “I Quit” Dovolani. But it was Doherty and her pro partner Mark Ballas who were sent packing after their jive and Viennese Waltz was welcomed with a lukewarm reception from viewers.
Statistically speaking, spaceman Buzz Aldrin gave the most underwhelming performance of the two-week season opener. The ex-astronaut believes his years of service to America translated into big votes.
“I think my friends who are proud of our space program in the past and have great expectations for the future… I think they had a little bit of something to do with it,” he said. “And I’m a patriotic person that served his country, saluted the flag and that made people think.”
He’s got a point: It’s kind of hard sticking it to a guy who reminds you of your Grandpa.
Perhaps it was all for the best: Shannen was going to have to find a new partner for next week if she made it through. Ballas — who won Season 6 of Dancing with then partner Kristy Yamaguchi — recently suffered a knee injury, relegating him to a bit of R&R for at least the next six weeks. Had she been able to continue, Shannen would have been paired with Mark’s dad, who danced with Oscar winner Cloris Leachman during Season 7.
“I kind of think it’s fate — my partner is hurt and he’s out for six weeks and to be honest, I wouldn’t want to go on without Mark,” Shannen said after learning that she would be going home. “I think that dancing isn’t really my thing. I’m an actor and it’s what I love to do and I did this for my dad and I did exactly what I wanted.”
