Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus on Verizon: Voice Dialing?

BGR broke the news that the codnames for the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on Verizon are the Russell and Romo, respectively. A tipster of our own confirms that both will launch with webOS 1.3.5, not something newer. The internal database screenshot above shows that we shouldn’t expect much in the way of Verizon-branded services: no VCast, VCast Store, Music on Demand, Push-to-Talk, or secret global GSM radio.

However if the above is to be believed, Voice Memos and Voice Activation each have a tantalizing "Y" underneath them. Now, we’ve seen plenty of these early-inventory spec sheets get things wrong, so it’s the exact opposite of a sure thing right now. Still: voice dialing definitely sounds like a "Plus" to us.

We’re tempted to get hot and bothered by the Y under MNAI, but we’re not going to get crazy here. MNAI stands for "Multiple Network Access Identifier." It’s essentially a way for Verizon to tell if data is being used by the phone as a phone or, wait for it, phone as modem. All it means is that Verizon can tell if your phone is in modem tethering mode, not that the functionality will be enabled or allowed.

Let’s hope that it if the Voice Activation bit pans out, the original Pre won’t be left out in the cold – cold like the chill vacuum of space, where no one can hear you voice dial.
