Although the fight was made based on hype that the two had exchanged looks after Silva knocked out Evans’s training partner Keith Jardine in August, they clearly have a mutual respect for one another.
“When you’re facing an opponent like Thiago Silva, any distraction would be a mistake,” said Evans, when asked if it was hard to focus on Silva after he had initially prepared for a meeting with Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. “I didn’t make that mistake and I’m 100 percent focused on this fight.”
Silva, who speaks little English, also complimented his opponent.
“Rashad is a tough guy,” Silva said. “But I’m here to fight. That’s what I want to do.”
