Britain is the biggest Al-Qaeda hub in the west – are we really a threat?

According to a statement by the US Government, Britain has the greatest number of Islamic extremists linked to al-Qaeda of any Western country and therefore poses a big threat to international security.
Are we really that dangerous, and what can be done about it?
