Liza Minnelli Joins “Ugly Betty” As Drama Teacher Lena Korvinka

In news that will make the gays go gaga, FOX News’ 411 Column has learned that entertainment legend Liza Minnelli will be joining the cast of Ugly Betty later this season.

Industry informants say the campy Cabaret star has inked a deal for a recurring role as Lena Korvinka, Justin Suarez’s (Mark Indelicato) high school drama teacher.

Liza has reportedly postponed her scheduled knee replacement surgery so that she can continue shooting through Feb. 12. And the cast — which features America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams — couldn’t be more excited to have her on board.

“There were massive rumors last year, then again in early January that Liza was being courted for the show, but Liza originally hadn’t planned to do the show,” an insider close to production on the ABC dramedy revealed Thursday. “Ugly Betty producers presented her with a great offer and a hilarious story and they kept coming back to her. She’s going to be playing an outrageous drama teacher and it is going to be fun! Liza is excited to be playing another off-the-wall character like Lucille 2 on ‘Arrested Development.’”

No word just yet on Liza’s first airdate.
