It is widely thought that the 2010 Ballon d’or is a two horse race with Messi and Ronaldo in an OK corral type shootout in la Liga/CL/World Cup for the award.
I don’t see it like that. Rooney is playing superbly for United and is every bit as influential as Ronaldo was in his greeat year 2 years ago and he is currently leading in the Golden Boot. He is the fulcrum for both United and England. If either are successful this year he will almost inevitably be the catalyst. The same could be said for Fabregas in truth though I think he is surrounded at international level by more talent than Rooney and hence may suffer from that as Iniesta did last year when shining for barca but being overlooked in favour of not only Messi but curiously Ronaldo as well in voting.
If Rooney stays fit and if England go well I think he is a good chance given that he has matured to be as roundedand important a player as any in the world. Any views?
