Soap opera legend Frances Reid — who played matriarch Alice Horton on NBC’s long-running daytime drama Days of our Lives for 42 years — passed away on Wednesday.
The actress began her career with a small role in 1938 movie Man-Proof, before landing a string of jobs on Broadway. The actress was initially accept the part of Alice after appearing for 12 years on another television soap opera, Portia Faces Life. But Reid ultimately decided Alice was a character that deserved her consideration, and she made the role made a household name after the Days series’ premiere in Nov. 1965.
Reid left Days of our Lives in Dec. 2007, but not before earning a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmys in 2004.
Frances Reid was 95.
