Evelyn D. Haas, a great philanthropist for the Bay Area, died on Wednesday at the age of 92. Of course I knew her name from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund but I hadn’t realized the full extent of her giving and its continuing effect. Local recipients of her philanthropy included the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the restoration of Crissy Field, and the San Francisco Chronicle’s Season of Sharing Fund. I also learned from Michael Cabanatuan’s touching obituary in the Chronicle that she was an expert fly fisherwoman. At the Fund’s web site you can read more about this remarkable woman.
