Innovations in Biological Imaging and Visualization (IBIV) – The goal of this activity will be to identify opportunities for investment that will advance the state-of-the-art in biological image capture, analysis, archiving, and dissemination. The Ideas Lab process entails participation in an intensive five-day residential workshop, the development of collaborative proposals through a real-time and iterative review process, and the subsequent submission of full, invited proposals. The process is designed to engage creative individuals in the development of novel project ideas with the potential to advance a field of research. Participation from molecular and cell biologists, biophysicists, ecologists, evolutionary and population biologists, computational theorists and engineers, mathematicians, imaging specialists from other fields, educators involved in training the next generation of researchers, and a range of other specialists (artists, illustrators, etc.) is strongly encouraged. The Ideas Lab activity is scheduled from May 24 to May 28, 2010. Submission of the preliminary proposal will be considered an indication of availability to attend and participate through the full course of the five day residential workshop. Venue TBD.
