Betty White isn’t the only “Golden Girl” with a legion of fans fighting to bring her to late-night! Rue McClanahan played aging vamp Blanche alongside Betty on the ’80s comedy The Golden Girls , and fans still haven’t forgotten how the star’s portrayal of the sex-charged Southern belle split sides and left audiences in stitches. A few hundred of Rue’s fan have taken to Facebook with a campaign to get the 75-year-old her first hosting gig on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
“Betty White shouldn’t be the only one who gets to host SNL. What about the original cougar Rue McClanahan? Let’s hear it for our girl! Betty White shouldn’t have all the fun,” reads The Rue McClanahan to Host SNL (please)! page.
“The Rue McClanahan on SNL” campaign comes on the heels of a similar Facebook campaign attracted nearly a half million followers with a plea to series creator Lorne Michaels to invite 88-year-old Betty appear to guest host the sketch comedy series.
Rue’s still recovering from a stroke she suffered after heart surgery late last year. She’s also going through a divorce from her husband of 12 years. However, if Rue’s feeling up to it, we’d love to see the two surviving “Golden Girls” co-host SNL together. That would be awesome! Are you listening, SNL? Get these ladies booked already….
