Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn is facing battery and vandalism charges in relation to an altercation with a photographer in Brentwood last fall.
Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office Spokesman Frank Mateljan says the 49-year-old Milk actor kicked a photographer during a brawl in October. The photographer’s camera also was damaged.
“We’re alleging that in the scuffle a photographer’s camera was damaged and he was battered…” Mateljan said this afternoon.
If convicted, Penn could face up to 18 months in jail. It’s not the first time Penn has been reprimanded for his violent outbursts. The father of two was sentenced to 60 days in jail for punching a movie extra on the set of the police drama Colors in 1987. At the time, he was on probation for punching a songwriter at a Los Angeles club.
