Dead newborn found in North Side closet

CHICAGO (STMW)  — A newborn girl was found dead in a closet Friday evening in a North Side Edgewater neighborhood apartment, just blocks from the campus of Loyola University Chicago.

Baby girl Molina, born on Thursday, was found dead in the 6100 block of N. Sheridan Rd., according to a Cook County Medical Examiner’s office spokesman, who said the newborn was found dead in a closet.

Police were notified of the death about 6:30 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said. It was unclear who called police and no one was in custody Friday night.

Loyola University Chicago’s Lake Shore campus is located just blocks away.

Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the agency was not investigating the death as of Friday night.

Belmont Area detectives are conducting a death investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
