Entertainer Wayne Newton, who is the king of Las Vegas, might not be the king of his own castle very soon.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, Newton is being sued by a former friend, motorsports mogul Bruton Smith, who claims Newton and his wife have failed to pay on a $3.35 million loan.
In 2006, the Newtons asked Smith for a personal guarantee to obtain $3.75 million from Bank of America. The loan was later adjusted to $3.35 million and was to be secured by Newton’s 38-acre ranch, Casa de Shenandoah, plus a private jet valued at $2 million. A lawsuit filed in Las Vegas Feb. 9 by Smith charges the loan has been delinquent since May 30, 2009 and asks for permission to foreclose on Newton’s property.
Newton still performs at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.
