Kellan Lutz PETA “Adopt, Don’t Buy” Ad Campaign

With his new Calvin Klein ad campaign popping up on billboards all over America, Kellan Lutz might just have one of the most famous crotches on the Planet — and the screen stud is teaming up with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to put that new found celebrity to good use.

Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen in the popular Twilight film franchise, takes a bite out of pet homelessness in an ad released by the animal rights organization on Wednesday.

It’s all a part of PETA’s “Adopt, Don’t Buy” campaign, which encourages animal lovers to look for the next furry addition to the family at the local animal rescue rather than purchasing from a breeder. The ad — shot by celebrity photog Collin Spark — shows Lutz hugging his rescued mixed-breed dog Kola and reads, “Buying Animals Is Killing Animals. Save a Homeless Dog or Cat—Always Adopt and Never Buy.”

According to PETA, almost 8 million unwanted dogs and cats enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and half of them ended up being euthanized.

“I love mutts!” Lutz says enthusiastically in an interview with the group. “If anything, I think mutts stay the healthiest. There are surprisingly so many animals, so many animals in these animal shelters. It’s sad, and knowing that they get euthanized … and there’s a lot you can do … spay or neuter your pets so that doesn’t happen.”
