Energy Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:
Draper Lab is currently seeking a senior-level professional to lead new business development efforts in support of identifying advanced energy initiatives, including environmentally friendly enhancements to existing energy technologies, alternative, non-fossil fuel based technologies and efficient distribution systems, and creating an effective implementation of the science of behind energy generation and the engineering solutions needed to bring it to practical fruition. The candidate will help to identify opportunities that align with the strategic plan and develop a roadmap for achieving the goals, including new technologies, skills and potential collaborations/partnerships, and lead the proposal efforts and resulting programs. Technologies to explore include:
* Clean burning coal-fired power
* Solar
* Wind-generated turbines
* Bioenergy (agricultural-based and micro-organisms)
* Efficiency enhancements to existing fossil-based power
* Smart Grid
* Demand Load Management
* Fuel-Cell technology
 

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree (PhD preferred) in science or engineering, twenty plus years experience in the development, generation and distribution of commercial and residential power and energy, experience with the integration of various energy sources into a distribution system and a professional career that includes successfully building and leading a team from creative thinking to practical implementation. Experience with government regulations and policies (DOE/EPA) regarding the generation and distribution of power and environmental issues (e.g., greenhouse gases, climatic impact of power generation) is required; demonstrated experience in securing commercial and government funding for applied research and technology; experience leading complex programs of marked difficulty, responsibility, and national significance in advanced Energy initiatives with demonstrated success.
