Superbad star Michael Cera is eyed for the starring role in the upcoming silver screen adaptation of Gilligan’s Island — a role made famous by Bob Denver. Fans of ’60s TV rejoice -– plans for a cinematic debut of the iconic sitcom are in the pipeline. The latest evidence that Hollywood is running out of ideas and pinning its hopes on nostalgia.
The legendary TV series was about a group of seven people who embark on a three hour boat tour, but instead end up shipwrecked and stranded on a deserted island. The series had a three year TV run between 1964-1967, and was revived in the 1979 TV movie Rescue from Gilligan’s Island.
The new film will put a contemporary spin on the original characters and plot of the show, Variety reported this week.
