Michigan native Sarah Killen is the world’s newest Internet sensation — thanks to a little help from Twitter and out-of-work comic Conan O’Brien.
Sarah, who Tweets under the handle @LovelyButton, quickly became a Twitter Trending Topic and picked up thousands of followers last week after Twitter newcomer O’Brien randomly selected her to be his first friend on the popular social networking site.
“I’ve decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change,” Conan Tweeted on Friday.
Conan Tweeted about her again the next day, writing, “Sarah likes Twizzlers and craves cantaloupe. I like Raisinets, but melon feels creepy in my mouth. Twitter pals 4 eva! :)”
As of Saturday afternoon, Sarah had 12,975 followers — 12,972 more than she had just two days before.
“I went on to my MySpace and there was a message asking basically if they did want to pick me, if they could, for permission. I didn’t take it seriously until I saw my name on his Twitter. And then I was like, ‘Oh, my god.’ I ran out to the work garage and started telling everybody,” Sarah told MTV News this weekend.
Conan created a frenzy when he joined the popular micro-blogging website a few weeks ago and quickly become one of the Web’s most popular Tweeters, attracting more than half a million followers.
