All’s well that ends well for one staff shagger: Robert Halderman, the former 48 Hours producer who attempted to extort $2 million from David Letterman, plansplead guilty in a Manhattan courtroom this afternoon.
Halderman was arrested in connection with the scheme last October. He is expected to be sentenced to six months in jail, 1,000 hours of community service, and 4 1/2 years probation for threatening to leak news of the Late Show host’s affairs with several staffers — including Letterman’s one time assistant Stephanie Birkett, Halderman’s former live-in girlfriend.
The case spurred the TV icon to tell viewers he’d had sex with women on his staff for years. Halderman’s lawyers initially said he was just offering to sell Letterman a thinly veiled screenplay about the comedian’s life.
Halderman could be out in four months with good behavior.
