2010Mar24: New Moore island, an island about 3.5 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide in the Bay of Bengal, is now under water due to rising sea levels. India and Bangladesh had argued over who owned the island for 30 years. “What these two countries could not achieve from years of talking, has been resolved by global warming,” said oceanographer Sugata Hazra, a professor at Jadavpur University in Calcutta (Associated Press, 2010). New Moore Island is also called South Talpatti Island and Purbasha.
