Today is the official day for the U.S. Census count and Senate Democrats are asking that you take 10 short minutes to answer 10 questions which will affect our state.
It is vital that you’ve been counted to ensure federal funds are properly dispersed to pay for schools, human services and other vital government programs.
Annually, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to states based on the Census and other factors. As Illinois, and many other state governments, makes tough decisions regarding our budget, it‘s very important for Illinois residents to complete and return their Census forms.
Census data is used to determine locations for retail stores, schools, hospitals, new housing developments and other community facilities. Census data will also determine boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.
With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Households are asked to provide key demographic information, including: whether a housing unit is rented or owned; the address of the residence; and the names, genders, ages and races of others living in the household. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual’s responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.
