“It is commonly assumed that infidelity, if not concealed from the other partner, is harmful to monogamous relationships (MRs). However, this assumption has never been directly tested. In order to determine if “cheating” does, in fact, harm MRs, we recruited 97 married heterosexual couples currently receiving marital counseling therapy, and randomly assigned each couple to an experimental or control group.
