  • Report: GM considering four-door-coupe on Cruze platform and SS variant

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is ready to take on the compact sedan segment in the third-quarter of 2010, however, General Motors also has some other things up its sleeve for the Delta compact platform that the Cruze is based on.

According to a report by Motor Trend, Chevrolet is looking to add a radical four-door-coupe on the same platform as the Cruze. The model would retain the Cruze’s wheelbase but would sacrifice some back seat head-room for a more expressive design. The idea behind the model is to get a higher-profit margin from a relatively inexpensive platform. Pricing wise, the Cruze-based four-door-coupe could cost you somewhere near the price tag of the Chevrolet Camaro.

Also under consideration is an SS version of the Cruze. The model is likely to use the same 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 260-hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Yeah, we’ll file this under rumor for now.

  • How To Compliment A Woman

    12C121C7-7FAD-4F0E-B7FE-BF058A5BBE8D.jpg

Complimenting a woman in a sincere way is one of the hardest things for many guys to master. Luckily there are ladies like Simcha Whitehill over at TheFrisky.com to give us some pointers.

Here are six ways to compliment a woman:

    1. Say Thank You: Tell her you couldn’t have done it without her. Whether it’s the birthday party she planned or just a supermarket run, let her know she’s important to you, and you’re grateful.
    2. Here’s Lookin’ At You: One ex-boyfriend, right before we had our first nakey times, told me I was his ideal-looking woman. I didn’t really believe him, but it was still sexy to hear and it definitely made me feel less inhibited. He did wind up proving he was a man of his word, but it would be indecent of me to tell you how.
    3. You-nique: When there’s no one else around, and it’s just the two of you talking, tell her you never met a girl like her before. If she thinks you mean it, she’ll turn to mush. Then follow it up with a kiss.
    4. Ask Her For Opinion/Advice: Whether it’s trouble at the office or a T-shirt purchase, if you ask her opinion she’ll think you care about what she thinks. We ladies love it when you want us for not just the body, but our brains too.
    5. All In The Family: If you tell a girl you think your family would adore her, you are guaranteed a big smile.
    6. Arm Candy: Tell her she’s gorgeous on the regular. There’s not a girl who doesn’t want to feel beautiful. If she feels stunning in your eyes, she’ll let you gaze away, even at the parts she’d normally hide.

  • Adult Social Care in Need of a Radical Overhaul

A radical overhaul of the adult social care system is being called for by Birmingham University researchers following an independent analysis of the social and financial gains that could be reaped.

The case for social care reform – the wider economic and social benefits, which was produced by the University of Birmingham’s Health Services Management Centre, concludes that without a radical rethink of current priorities the real cost of providing social care will double in the next twenty years.

The report’s authors argue that spending on adult social care should not be seen as ‘dead money’.  Instead, it is a form of social and economic investment that has the potential to deliver a better service for people who use social care services, while also generating significant savings in other parts of the welfare state.

An improved social care system could generate significant savings by reducing the number of hospital admissions and the pressure on emergency hospital beds. The report also argues that helping social care users into paid employment could reduce social security spending whilst also providing a significant boost to the economy.

Professor Jon Glasby, the report’s lead author, comments: “In recent years, there has been a growing awareness that aspects of the adult social care system are fundamentally broken.  This stems from the fact that we have a 1940s system that is now no longer fit for purpose. Social care spending is not a necessary evil. A more effective system would deliver benefits for those who use services and their families.

The next decade will see increasing pressure on social care services as our population ages. Instituting reform now has the potential to generate significant savings in other parts of the welfare state, whilst also stopping the social care budget spiralling out of control.”

As part of a more detailed analysis, the report reviews five key mechanisms for reforming social care, setting out the likely cost implications of no action, some action and significant action under each heading:

    • Strategic commissioning – rather than delivering all services in-house, there is increasing focus on delivering the best value for money by securing services from a much more mixed economy of care.

    • Greater collaboration between health and social care – local agencies working together could potentially meet needs more effectively and may be able to reduce the costs of operating independently of each other.

    • Personalisation – emerging evidence suggests that direct payments and personal budgets may be able to achieve better outcomes for either the same or potentially slightly less money for some user groups.

    • Greater use of IT – to provide better support to people through a system of telecare as well as to improve the efficiency of current working practices.

    • Workforce reform – at present, there are a series of costs associated with unfilled vacancies, use of agency staff and absenteeism which might be reduced by successful workforce reform.

    Professor Glasby adds:

“Radical reform of social care ought to focus on creating a system that is not only more efficient but that also provides better care and support.

“In practice, there is wide and arguably unacceptable variation in levels of spending on adult social care across the country and the types of services that are supported. Whilst maintaining local flexibility in services is important, government should be clear about the desired outcomes of care and hold local services accountable for delivering these outcomes.

“What is clear, is that doing nothing is not a viable option.”

The report was commissioned by the Department of Health.

    Health Secretary Andy Burnham said:

“We commissioned this report to look into the potential social and economic benefits of reforming social care, and the report has concluded that there is a compelling case for change. Their findings show that by investing in social care and giving help to the most vulnerable, we can also help to build strong communities and help the economy. It can cut unnecessary hospital admissions and help social care users into work and off benefits.

“People shouldn’t have to run down their life savings to pay for care or lack choice on where and how they are cared for. That’s why we are looking at reforming the whole care and support system.

“With an ageing population, action is needed now. We will shortly set out a blueprint for a National Care Service that will offer a, simpler, fairer and more affordable system.”

  • Obama Czar: Government should Ban discussion of Climategate by Aaron Klein, WorldNetDaily.com

    Article Tags: Web Article

In a lengthy academic paper, President Obama’s regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, argued the U.S. government should ban “conspiracy theorizing.”

Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.

Sunstein also recommended the government send agents to infiltrate “extremists who supply conspiracy theories” to disrupt the efforts of the “extremists” to propagate their theories.

In a 2008 Harvard law paper, “Conspiracy Theories,” Sunstein and co-author Adrian Vermeule, a Harvard law professor, ask, “What can government do about conspiracy theories?”

“We can readily imagine a series of possible responses. (1) Government might ban conspiracy theorizing. (2) Government might impose some kind of tax, financial or otherwise, on those who disseminate such theories.”

  • Italy Blocks The Pirate Bay Yet Again

Well, here we go again. A year and a half ago, an Italian court ordered ISPs to start blocking access to The Pirate Bay. Oddly (and inexplicably) many ISPs redirected all such traffic to a website owned by the IFPI, which seemed highly questionable. Why should a private entity receive that traffic? Either way, it didn’t do much good, as the block only drew more attention to The Pirate Bay, leading more visitors to reach the site from Italy than before the block! Not long after that, a court struck down the ban as being unreasonable.

But, of course, this is the entertainment industry we’re talking about, and if the courts save it from shooting itself in the foot, it will just keep shooting. So, once again, it is going to get The Pirate Bay a lot more attention by getting a court to require the site be blocked again. Basically, the original ruling saying that Italy couldn’t ban foreign sites was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court, and thus, the lower court went back and decided, again, that the site should be blocked.

What I really wonder is if anyone actually thinks this will make a difference?

  • Actually a lot of Symptoms of Depression

People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help one’s self or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

There are actually a lot of symptoms of depression that depressed people may actually posses but they don’t have to suffer from each and every one of them before you actually help them get diagnosed and be treated for this illness. Also, since symptoms of depression actually vary, the time of their “attacks” varies as well.

Here are some common examples of symptoms of depression:

Prolonged period of sadness or not feeling “up to it,” people who are always feeling not in the mood, who’d rather mope around the house and feel sorry for one’s self is the best example for this symptom of depression.

Feels hopeless, perennial pessimist: speaking of feeling sorry for one’s self, another common symptom of depression is when a person actually feels like he/she has nothing to look forward to in his or her life. As for being the perennial pessimist, those who show this symptom of depression are usually very negative about things, again, the feeling of hopelessness comes in to mind.

Guilt-driven, loss of self-worth and helplessness: other symptoms of depression that can be easily seen on people who prefer to mope around all day long are these. Whenever a person feels so guilty over something, that actually makes one a very sad person who feels like he or she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Thus, the loss of self-worth, if that person feels like he or she isn’t worthy of being happy or enjoying one’s self then that’s clear tell-tale symptom of depression. Helplessness also contribute to being depressed, when assuming that things won’t simply go your way, it’s already a clear saying that you have absolutely no hope in your body at all.

Isn’t interested in finding or taking pleasure; just dropping the hobbies as well as the other things that one used to enjoy: this tell-tale symptom of depression just shows how depressed a person can be, if one is actually too sad to take pleasure even in the very things that one loves then that person is seriously lacking something, rather, that person might well have caught the depression bug.

Fatigue, always tired: people suffering from depression, since they’ve lost whatever interest in life that they may have had before are actually lacking of physical energy at all times, if one would prefer to just mope around, probably won’t even eat not get enough sleep, a depressed person may well be on their way to not just a mental illness but depression can actually be terrible for one’s physical health as well.

Having trouble concentrating, having bad memory and is indecisive: a person who is suffering from depression easily gives away this tell-tale symptom of depression. Wherein one’s lack of interest with regards to the outside world or for just about anything for that matter can lead to that person’s inability to lose track of things and actually not be able to remember things that happened or what other people said. Lack of interest actually makes depressed people very inattentive.
There are actually more symptoms of depression that can actually help you see if a person (or you) needs to be brought to the doctor to get some help when it comes to depression: lacking sleep, sleeping too much or waking up at wee hours of the morning are all symptoms of depression (if it happens on a daily basis), appetite loss as well as eating too much may show one’s lack of enthusiasm for life. Be weary of sudden weight loss or weight gain in those around you. Being suicidal, talking about death, about wanting to die is another clear indication that that person is depressed. Being restless and irritable and physical symptoms that are usually brought about by poor mental health such as headaches, digestive disorders and various body pains.
