  • Remembering Reagan: a President, a Patriot and a Pragmatist

    Ronald Reagan would have been 99 years old today. So, honoring “the man that gave America the longest period of peace and economic growth”, here are some of my favorite quotes (and it’s hard to pick because there are SO MANY great ones):

  • Stop Freaking Out About The Deficit — It’s Just More Republican Scaremongering

    These days it’s hard to pick up a newspaper or turn on a news program without encountering stern warnings about the federal budget deficit. The deficit threatens economic recovery, we’re told; it puts American economic stability at risk; it will undermine our influence in the world. These claims generally aren’t stated as opinions, as views held by some analysts but disputed by others. Instead, they’re reported as if they were facts, plain and simple.

    Yet they aren’t facts. Many economists take a much calmer view of budget deficits than anything you’ll see on TV. Nor do investors seem unduly concerned: U.S. government bonds continue to find ready buyers, even at historically low interest rates. The long-run budget outlook is problematic, but short-term deficits aren’t — and even the long-term outlook is much less frightening than the public is being led to believe…

    Over the last few months, a number of British commentators have been trumpeting an increase in scepticism about climate change.

    The cold weather (often claimed – incorrectly – to be a hemisphere-wide phenomenon), the University of East Anglia e-mail hack, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s lack of rigour over projections of Himalayan glacier melt, the weak outcome from the Copenhagen summit: all these and more have been proclaimed as factors that are said to be deflecting the public away from climate concern

    Now comes evidence from an opinion poll – commissioned by the BBC, carried out by Populus – indicating that in Britain at least, tales of increasing scepticism may be true.

    The headline stats are that between November last year and the beginning of February this year, there has been a net 9% downwards swing in the proportion of Britons believing that “the Earth’s climate is changing and global warming is taking place”.

    Climategate is one of many known IPCC failings

    Two years ago, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was the world’s most celebrated organization, guardian of the world against the peril of climate change and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for “its outstanding scientific work!”

    Today, the IPCC stands among the world’s most infamous organizations, its reputation in tatters, unable to respond to a growing chorus of critics because the critics now include many of its once-fiercest champions, among them its own scientists, and because its chairman and chief spokesman, India’s Rajendra Pachauri, is himself thoroughly disgraced. “The IPCC needs to regain credibility. Is that going to happen with Pachauri?,” asks John Sauven, director of Greenpeace UK, “I don’t think so.”

    What caused a fall from grace so sudden that IPCC’s insiders now demand Pachauri’s ouster, and that leads the Indian government to set up an “Indian IPCC” as a national alternative to the IPCC, declaring that it “cannot rely” any longer on the organization that its own representative heads?

    One answer is Climategate — the unauthorized release of emails in November that showed the duplicity of scientists associated with the IPCC. Unquestionably, Climategate opened the floodgates to the torrent of scandals that have since poured out, seemingly without end. Many of the new scandals, some of them sporting “-gate” as a suffix, were little known before the Climategate emails were released; many were well known, but not publicized by a compliant press. Their sheer number deserves cataloguing.

    A crew from enXco Energy Services from California inspected a wind turbine on Wednesday in Chaska. The blades were turning when the crew arrived, but there are several similar turbines in the metro area and outstate that have been stalled recently by the Minnesota winter.

    Anoka, Chaska and other city residents ask why their newly installed windmills don’t spin. Operator says they will be running within two months.

    Like a lot of California transplants, 11 newcomers to Minnesota are having a hard time adjusting to our winters.

    They are wind turbines, erected last fall by 11 metro and outstate cities. The green-energy machines were expected to be spinning before Christmas, but so far their blades have been largely motionless, apparently paralyzed by frigid weather.

    The turbines sit idly in Anoka, North St. Paul, Chaska, Shakopee, Buffalo and six other cities, all members of the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA). The refurbished, 115-foot towers had operated on a California wind farm, where they didn’t have to worry about cold hydraulic fluid turning to gel and oil lubricants getting too sluggish.

    When you prioritize seeking a partner who supports your becoming your favorite, best self — instead of just crushing on someone’s superficial sexy looks, charisma and wealthiness — you wind up with a happy love relationship!

  • Why does the British Council spend money on climate change propaganda? Ed West, The Telegraph

    Top blogger EU Referendum has done some digging and found out this irritating but not entirely shocking fact about the British Council:

    In the space of two years, the British Council has spent more that £3.5 million of British taxpayers’ money on climate change propaganda – according to information released to this blog under the Freedom of Information Act.

    It has been spent on recruiting young people in 60 countries to pressurise world leaders to “to take action on climate change”. This included funding groups to attend the December Copenhagen summit in order to take part in demonstrations.

    The £3.5 million expenditure has been incurred on two initiatives. The first, and most expensive, costing £2.5 million, is the “International Climate Champions” programme.

    which “engages young people around the world as communicators who will help to influence and educate their peers and the general public on the urgency of climate change”.

This is matched by the European element known as “Challenge Europe”, which has cost hard-pressed British taxpayers £1.1 million to date. The British Council describes it as a three year project “that aspires to make a definite and lasting impact on the climate change debate, and is ambitious in its aim to accelerate change to a low carbon future.”

    Standing at the door holding on with one hand and trying to juggle the camera with the other is a little difficult. Anyway hope you enjoy the pictures.

  • TouchPro2 ROM freeze issue

    Hi everyone, I know that you guys have been experiencing the same issue I have with the TouchPro2 ROM, a freezing issue. This has been bothering me and causing me to reset my phone more than usual, so in this poll I want to know what you want.

    This issue can be solved two different way.

    1) take out TF3D 2.5 from the ROM completely and leave 2.1 in its place. We did not want to do it originally, but we thought people would not like 2.1 like I don’t.

    2) keep TF3D 2.5 in the ROM and give up a little speed and just disable HTC massage, which I have found is the cause for a lot of the problems.
