  • 75-80% Of Women Using Testosterone Experience Side Effects

    Ann Louise Gittleman–

Wendy (name has been changed) and her husband used to make love at least three times a week. But for the past six years, she’s lost interest. “All of a sudden I didn’t have any desire,” she says.

She’s not depressed and she loves her husband. “But after our second child was born, I just lost interest in sex,” Wendy says.

Ever since Viagra and pills for male sexual dysfunction hit the market, drug companies have been searching for a female version. However,
sexuality is very different for women.

“Attempting to treat low libido with a pill ignores the fact that many women’s level of desire is deeply affected by everyday life stresses and interpersonal relationships,” says Judy Norsigian, executive director of the women’s health advocacy organization, Our Bodies Ourselves.

“That’s not to deny a biological basis for low libido in women,” says Debby Herbenick, PhD, MPH, at Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute. Clearly, hormones play an important, if not complex role in sexual desire.

That explains why more women experience loss of libido during perimenopause and menopause, as their hormone levels decline. As if hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness weren’t enough to spoil their pleasure.

While levels of the female hormones decline dramatically with the change, estrogen is not the only hormone at play here. New research points out powerful benefits of the male hormone testosterone on libido—even for women.

Unlike female hormone replacement therapy that’s been linked to cancer and cardiovascular disease in women, a little testosterone also seems to support women’s health overall. The Multiethnic Cohort Study, which followed diverse populations of women, shows that testosterone—as opposed to female hormones—was inversely linked to breast cancer.

And a recent Swedish double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial shows that adding testosterone to the female hormone estradiol lowers an inflammatory marker for cardiovascular disease, C-reactive protein, helping to protect a woman’s heart.

I’m glad the research is finally reporting what I’ve recognized for years—women need testosterone too!

After menopause, women’s testosterone levels are about half what they were before the change. Low levels of testosterone are also found in women with high levels of cortisol, a stress hormone.

Sure, it’s important for vaginal health to counteract the effects of low estrogen levels. But it’s equally important to boost your testosterone levels if you want to keep the fires of sexual desire burning into menopause and beyond.

A little testosterone not only supports a woman’s libido but also relieves fatigue, irritability, depression, joint pain, and dry, thinning skin. This male hormone has even been found to strengthen women’s bones, preventing osteoporosis that’s so common with menopause.

Trouble is, oral testosterone dosage is tricky in women, and the testosterone patch produces adverse side effects like acne, irritated skin, and weight gain in 75 to 80 percent of females who use it. Even too much testosterone cream can cause unwanted facial hair, belly fat (linked to heart disease), agitation, and other unwanted symptoms.

Instead, I recommend Hot Times Testosterone Creme for Women, a unique blend of 11 homeopathic ingredients that have been safely used for more than 150 years. These ingredients stimulate testosterone in the body—increasing sex drive and energy levels, enhancing mood, and helping maintain muscle tone—without the negative effects of this hormone in women.

  • OpenGL ES games being made for Windows Mobile

Our smartphones have been sporting OpenGL ES hardware acceleration for around 2 generations now, but the main software taking advantage of this has been HTC’s Touchflo3D.

Korean mobile company MindPol hopes to change this, producing software which uses OpenGL ES 1.1 to produce graphically engaging games which should work on HTC devices (MSM72xx CPU or higher) or Sony Xperia and Samsung Omnia 2.

Hopefully we will see an increasing number of companies jumping on this bandwagon, especially now that hardware acceleration has become rather standard in in the majority of Windows Mobile smartphones.

  • Adsense: 10 clicks and no dollars?

A remark often made by people just starting out with Google Adsense, is that they’ve had 120 Page Impressions, 21 clicks, and still their earnings is at 0,00$.
    There are three possibility
    1. The click considered as invalid click
    2. The click happened on the public service ads
    3. The click is less than 1 cent
Now, let’s take a closer look at these three possibilities.
First, the clicks are considered as invalid. What does this mean? Well, if Google believes that the clicks you received are not legit clicks, made by real visitors on your website, and genuinely interested in the advertised product, Google will see it as an invalid click. This can be you, clicking your own ads. Your mother repeatedly clicking the ads on your website, a bunch of different people constantly coming from a suspicious site and clicking your ads (because you asked them to on that suspicious site) or any other situation which makes Google think this.
Second, the click happened on a public service ad. When Google is unable to find ads relevant to your content, you have the choice to show a solid color, ads from another page (which you provide), or, and this is the standard option, which most users never change, public service ads are shown. To solve this problem, you can either implement other ads to be shown when Google cannot find relevant ads, but another, and much better solution, is to make sure that Google finds relevant ads.
When new content is put online, it is normal that Google cannot find relevant ads, and this can take anywhere between 10 minutes and 12 hours, untill Googles Adsense Bot drops by for a visit.
If your blog is brand new, or your blog covers a wide variety of topics which are not related to eachoter, Google will have no idea what your new content is about, and will show the public service ads. Whenever they are clicked, the click does show up in your stats, but the earnings for this click are 0$.
Third, the click earned you less than 0,1$. Due to the setup of the bidding system for Adwords ad placement, if there is little or no competition, the biddingfees will be very very low. This means that after deduction of Google’s part, there will only be a very small amount left for you. If you’ve been smartpriced (this term will be explained in an upcoming article), you will receive an even smaller part. This way, it is possible to receive clicks worth 0,1$, or less. Google does keep track of the low figures, and if you have enough of them, they will still show up.
The low earnings per click problem can be taken care of by increasing your earnings per click ratio. And the best way to do that is by targeting your keywords better. Check out which keywords have a high value, and write towards those keywords.
I hope this article was of help to you, and I wish you all the luck getting rid of these clicks with no pay.

  • Video Games Make Awesome Unemployment Gifts

    xbox pillow guy

Citi Investment Research’s Kate McShane battled the crowds Friday to get some on-the-ground Black Friday research in New York and New Jersey.

Apparently, Black Friday crowds were overall larger than last year.

She noticed particular strength at Best Buy, where video game consoles were shoppers’ favorite large ticket purchase.

Overall Traffic Improvement Y/Y Could Drive Upside — Traffic was notably higher versus last year in most of the retail locations we visited and could drive upside to comps, margins and valuations, in our view. We observed the strongest traffic at Best Buy, with long lines at store opening and registers, and better than expected traffic at Office Depot. Home furnishings retailers had relatively lower traffic, likely due to significantly fewer promotions.

[Best Buy] By the time doors opened at 5am, traffic was very strong with an estimated ~1,000 shoppers in store and despite a generally organized environment with plenty of salespeople on hand to help shoppers, there was some difficulty navigating shopping carts through the crowds. Police were also on hand to catch shoppers who were selling limited item product tickets for $40 (for items where they offer 5 or 10 per store, for example).

Main displays featured Dynex TVs, Nintendo Wii bundles, PlayStation3 gaming consoles, Bose Sounddock music system, and Sony and Samsung LCD TVs. There were approximately 150 shoppers already in line to check out by 5:30am (growing to about 250 by 6am), with an average of 3 large ticket items on hand or 15 small ticket items on hand (DVDs,music CDs etc.). The most popular purchases appeared to be led by the PlayStation3 120GB video gaming consoles for $299.99, followed by the Microsoft XBox 360, Nintendo Wii gaming console bundle with controller, Samsung 32” and 40” LCD TVs, Sony Bravia 32” LCD TV, Samsung Blu Ray player, music CDs and DVDs, and Dynex 32” TV for $299.99. About half of the Dynex inventory appeared to have sold through by 5:40am. Shoppers did not appear to be buying Rock Band 2 or Beatles Rockband. Gift cards were also displayed up near cash registers; however, no one appeared to be buying them.

While the above is just anecdotal evidence from New York and Jersey, it makes a lot of sense.

Today’s Holly-Wood-beating video games offer a lot of entertainment bang for their buck. Especially if cash-strapped consumers choose to stay home more often and save money. Don’t forget that they are also a great way to pass the time and keep your spirits up should you be unemployed.

Thus Citi’s recent retail report was decent news for Best Buy (BBY), and also game producers Electronic Arts (ERTS) and Activision (ATVI). It was good news for console makers Sony and Microsoft as well, but given the subsantial size of their other businesses, console sales are less-likely to move their profit needle.

2011 Chevrolet Volt – Click above for high-res image gallery

General Motors shocked the crowd at Cars & Coffee this weekend by bringing out the 2011 Chevy Volt. Representatives on hand said this is the same car that will be on display at the LA Auto Show next week. They added that this is a pre-production model with a lot of development miles on it. For all that, it looked pretty good, especially given the wet conditions. We were disappointed that nobody faked an electric shock when touching the car in the damp lot.

Lack of hijinks aside, it seemed most people at the show liked the Volt, although several walked right past it, not realizing what it was. Good or bad, as important as this car is to GM, it looks pretty much like any other midsize sedan. On a day where Suzuki brought out all of their SEMA show cars and Tesla brought down a Roadster and Roadster Sport, the Volt and the Equinox fuel cell vehicle behind it still managed to draw a pretty big crowd. We snapped a few pics for our gallery, which you can check out below. We’ll bring you more about the Volt and everything else worth noting at the LA Auto Show next week.

  • Essen 2009: AC Schnitzer gives BMW 123d the police package treatment [w/VIDEO]

AC Schnitzer BMW 123d Tune It Safe! police concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

High performance vehicles like Porsche 911s being used for pursuit duty on Germany’s autobahn is nothing new. As such, in order order to grab the attention of Essen Motor Show attendees, the Tune It Safe! program’s annual police-liveried show car needs to go a step further. Past efforts have included rides such as a police-liveried Brabus Rocket and a TechArt-prepared Porsche 911. This year, AC Schnitzer got the call and it has unwrapped (or perhaps wrapped is the better term, given the side graphics) a police car concept based on the BMW 123d coupe.

Naturally, Schnitzer couldn’t leave the stock, 40 mpg 204-horsepower twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel alone, and so it has boosted the show car’s engine to 241 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. They’ve also applied an array of their appearance upgrades including a front splitter, rear spoiler, and a bigger wheel/tire package. The body has been dropped 30 millimeters, which should help compensate a bit for the extra drag of the light bar on the roof. Inside, racing seats and carbon fiber trim are accompanied by a cover for the iDrive knob that matches the wheel design.

We’ll pass on the light bar and the graphics, but take the rest of the car, please. Not sure about it yourself? Take a look at the high-res gallery below and a video available after the jump.

  • Where to Buy Green Papaya

I just posted a recipe for Thai Green Papaya Salad that calls for green, unripe papaya. However, it can be hard to find unripened papaya in western markets. Most papayas for sale are ripe or in varying stage of ripeness.

Your best bet for finding green papayas is your local Asian market. They often sell green papayas.

If you have no luck finding them locally you can purchase green papayas online. Good luck!

  • HTC HD2 vs iPhone 3GS – PhoneArena’s take

Last time we posted an iPhone 3GS vs HTC HD2 article is was from a small, lesser-known publication.  This time we have PhoneArena’s take on this question, and while they take the cop out route of saying they are both great devices, by our score the HTC HD2 comes out pretty far ahead.

    Design

PhoneArena calls the design a draw, with the HTC HD2 being compact for its massive screen.

    Interface

Calling the HTC HD2’s user interface more modern and the iPhone’s dated, PhoneArena calls it a draw, but I think we know better.

    Messaging

The HTC HD2 has a dedicated messaging tab with an elegant preview interface, while PhoneArena judges the iPhone’s client to be “clumsy”.

    Keyboard

PhoneArena prefers the iPhone keyboard, calling the HD2’s screen too sensitive and the keyboard cramped (due to too many keys).

    Software

Here the iPhone leads when it comes to games and such entertainment apps, but as can be seen in the multimedia section, the platform still lacks in important areas such as a strong 3rd party media player like Core Player.

    Camera and video

Here PhoneArena rightly crowns the HD2 the winner, due to the presence of the flash, which allows pictures to be taken in complete darkness. They also call the HTC HD2’s VGA quality videos more detailed.

    completedarkness
HTC HD2 camera in complete darkness iPhone 3GS camera in complete darkness

    Multimedia

Here again the HD2 wins due to its larger screen and the ability to add 3rd party codec support using an app such as Coreplayer

    Internet

The larger, higher resolution screen again helps the HD2 to run away with this category.

    Call Quality

PhoneArena calls this a drawn, but if this is the case, the HD2 wins on interesting call management touches such as being able to mute a ring by turning the device over, having the call automatically be louder in your pocket and go quieter when you pick it up and being able to turn it into a speaker phone just by turning it over during a call.

    Battery Life

PhoneArena calls this a draw, with both devices needing daily charging. Of course here again the HTC HD2 scores by having a removable battery and extended battery option.

By our count the HTC HD2 wins 7, the iPhone 2 and with one draw. Of course ultimately which device one chooses depends on how one weighs each area, but the HD2 seems to have quite a bit going for it.

  • Bring the Noise: Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps reportedly safe… for now

Following earlier news that the Donington track, which was supposed to take over the British Grand Prix in lieu of Silverstone, had to declare bankruptcy comes a reversal of fortune for the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The longtime host of the Belgian Grand Prix looked to be in serious trouble with local authorities when nearby residents got fed up with the noise emanating from the track. Government officials threatened to shut down the circuit if the situation wasn’t addressed, but now they appear to be singing a different tune.

According to the latest reports, the regional environment ministry has given Spa an exemption from noise regulations in light of the economic benefits the Belgian Grand Prix brings to the region. There are a few conditions, though. First of all, while they’re willing to overlook the noise issue for the F1 race (and possibly a few other events), authorities will crack down at other times, even shutting down the track completely during parts of the summer. Beyond that, they’ve appointed a third party to monitor the noise levels, warning the track owners that their exemption will be up for review again within two years. So, while race organizers and fans can breathe a sigh of relief, it’ll be a short breath, proving once again that racing and bureaucrats don’t mix.
