  • Compact encoders for the packaging industry

POSITAL’s OPTOCODE encoders for EtherNet/IP- and PROFINET IRT networks are ideally suited for use in packaging applications, e.g. in packaging lines, cartoning machines or brick packing machines. With a diameter of merely 58 mm and a standardized design, the units can be easily integrated into machines and plants with little installation space. Preassembled connection cables ensure fast and easy installation. Both encoder types can be used in high-speed packaging machines: the EtherNet/IP models feature an Ertec200-based platform and reach cycle times of less than 10 ms, while the PROFINET IRT models support IRT, RT and NRT data transfer (isochronous real-time / real-time / non-real-time) according to the V4 encoder profile, reaching cycle times as low as 1 ms (IRT) and 10 ms (RT). The devices are equipped with six status LEDs which allow for quick bus diagnosis.

The encoders do not require any terminating resistors or switches for address allocation or Baud rate setting. They feature two M12 two M12 connections for data transfer and one M12 connection for voltage supply. Like all OPTOCODE encoders, they use a proven opto-electronic scanning method to record position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 bit per revolution. Additionally, a maximum of 16.384 revolutions (14 bit) can be registered in multi-turn mode, thereby covering a measuring range of 30 bit. All OPTOCODE encoders operate without backup batteries and instantly provide current absolute position values without referencing even after power failure. Optionally, all encoder models are also available as stainless steel versions. Additionally, POSITAL also supplies encoders suitable for use in explosive atmospheres or mining applications. The company, which has been developing and manufacturing Ethernet encoders since 2001, has received certifications for the EtherNet/IP and PROFINET IRT encoders from the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA) and the PROFIBUS User Organization (PNO) respectively.

  • VISIPORT Spin Window

A transparent spinning disk glued onto the machine window guarantees a clear view inside the machining center.

VISIPORT SPIN WINDOWS – the eye of your CNC machine
As a manufacturer of machines, you are exposed to global competition and attempt to offer your customers optimally adapted, use-oriented machines. Your products are characterized by a high degree of innovation, safety and differentiation from the competition.

You follow the trend of visualization, creating transparency in your operations and processes. Your company will be an enthusiastic user of Visiport Spin Windows. Visiport systems have already been in heavy everyday continuous use among leading international manufacturers for several years.

We give you eyes for your machines.
You will optimize your processes and improve your working ergonomics and productivity, in that you will be able to observe the actual machining process in the machine, without your view being impaired by coolant or chips. The electrically driven Visiport Spin Windows are suitable for all types of CNC milling machines, lathes and machining centero both in original equipment and for later installation.

Simple installation and optimum maintenance, because of the modular design, will reduce the costs. With their low weight and a generous visible surface, the Visiports will adapt optimally to the design of your machines. Additional electronic safety features will complete the perfect impression.

    Advantages
VISIPORT means taking active safety precautions: Without VISIPORT, the operator can be tempted to bypass the safety circuit of the machine to see what is happening in the machine. This implies a danger potential for severe accidents. With regard to product liability and safety regulations, a glance at the safety advantages of VISIPORT can pay.
Our system is suitable for CNC high-speed milling/grinding machines. It is also the system suitable for lathe applications. The VISIPORT is suitable for OEM first equipment and retrofitting.
The flat construction enables the VISIPORT to be adapted to widely differing door and window designs. VISIPORT is also suitable for fastening to sliding doors with limited intermediate space.

VISIPORT represents an excellent investment: At full functionality and with superior design, it has the lowest total costs (up to 50% lower) for an electrically driven rotating window.
No hole has to be drilled in the machine cabin. The unit is either fastened on the bonded mounting plate or bonded directly to the window. When the mounting plate is used fast replacement of the VISIPORT unit is possible.

Subsequent installation is also simple and fast. Low space requirements enable it to be used for most window configurations on new and also older machines, a through-hole installation is also possible.

    Electrical connection
Connection is made directly to the 24 V DC machine power supply (direct current). The flexible cable protection provides maximum protection against rough conditions and also serves as vent. Almost all components, such as rotating disk, motor and electronics are replaceable.
We use a series connected, brushless direct current motor (24V direct voltage, minimum 5A current) for the drive. The current consumption in continuous operation and if no coolant load is present is 500mA. The integrated drive electronic unit is equipped with polarity reversing and overvoltage protection. The power connection cables are designed for 5A and 250V. The control has an overload protection. The connection must not be made through the machine tool alternating current supply, since the starting times of the VISIPORT are impaired here.

    Visible surface
The rotating disk of the VISIPORT consists of tempered glass with a thickness of 3mm. The large diameter of up to 25cm guarantees excellent sight. The high rotation speed of 2200 revolutions per minute and the low starting time of the VISIPORT on loading guarantee perfect viewing conditions quickly. The disk can also be cleaned simply and replaced quickly in the case of damage.

    Bonding
The VISIPORT is installed simply using high-tech adhesive tape (adhesive carrier material: closed acrylic cellular foam). You just remove the adhesive foil on the back of the VISIPORT and fix the VISIPORT in the required position of the window, which has been cleaned carefully previously.
The optimum drying out time is 72 hours. If the surface has been sufficiently cleaned beforehand, it is virtually impossible to separate the VISIPORT from the adhesive surface (glass or poly-carbonate window).
Once the adhesion is 80% bonded to the surface, then according to our calculations a safety factor of 20:1 or better is achieved. In other words, the adhesion of the bond is no problem. The bond is extremely strong and not detachable. Screw fastening can also be used in addition on request.

In the case of VISIPORT models with installation frame, an artificial vacuum can be generated by special in- expensively available small vacuum pumps. This clearly reduces the bonding time to a few hours and further increases adhesion. You have the advantage of not having to cut any holes. You need no tiresome measuring out and fitting, fast and simple commissioning is guaranteed.

    Product quality
All VISIPORTs have a factory warranty period of twelve month. Typical parts subject to wear are excluded from this. Many components are made of high grade aluminum.
The ball bearings are lubricated for life and replaceable. The flexible connection tube is temperature resistant up to 150°C. The electronic components have been developed according to special specifications for VISIPORT. Ambient influences are excluded by the optimum installation position and sealing.

All parts and components of the VISIPORT are tested comprehensively and intensively for material quality and life in the form of permanent endurance tests and short-term very high load tests.

Ventilation and aeration of the VISIPORT
VISIPORT has a patented system whereby the accurately dosed air volume is available within the VISIPORT. Sufficient air circulation to the unit is guaranteed by the flexible hose supplied. The flexible hose protects the cable harness between the VISIPORT unit and the fuse box.
The air circulation was especially important in the development of the flexible hose. If you therefore want to use a different connection for certain reasons, then please consult our engineers about this. Ventilation should always be guaranteed.

    Installation
The VISIPORT can be installed vertically and up to 30° to the vertical. It can also be installed in a fixed (constantly closed) window. The VISIPORT functions best of all with coolants based on water and well with mineral oils. Heavier oils impair its operation.

  • Variable application for laboratory extruder film blowing die heads

Manufacturing of blown films from thermoplastics is a complex procedure, wherein a multitude of parameters carefully have to be coordinated with each other. Initially the thermoplastic will be prepared and melted in an extruder. The polymer melt will be tempered in the film blowing die head and afterwards blown out through the die gap in form of a tubular polymer melt flow. It will be blown to a film bubble by means of outer cooling air and, in most cases, of inner cooling air also.

For preparation and control of this process Brabender® provides a modular system with drive unit, extruder and a film blowing unit. It simultaneously serves for blowing, cooling, taking off and winding up of extruded blown films.

The new variable system provides the feasibility to exchange the die and thus the die gap of the film blowing die head without exchanging the mandrel at the same time. With these and other developments Brabender® GmbH & Co. KG furthermore contributes to optimization of the material usage in the value added chain of extrusion of polymers.

  • Röhm with mechanical heavy-duty spindles (MKS)

When “biceps” are no longer enough

Straightforward manual clamping of sturdy blanks

With a series of clamping jaws with heavy-duty spindles, the clamping technology specialist Röhm from Sontheim an der Brenz/Germany, has just what you need for the manual clamping of sturdy blanks on face plates – without a great deal of force being needed up to the required clamping force.
“Human strength is limited. This becomes clear when robust and sometimes bulky blanks have to be clamped to face plates, for example. Human biceps are often not enough,” explains Johann Taglang, Head of Engineering at Röhm.

For this reason, Röhm GmbH has developed a series of clamping jaws with heavy-duty spindles which facilitate clamping on face plates with multi-jaw systems. Following the simple manual adjustment of the jaws, the tight tension release is carried out by a wedge gear that is integrated in the individual jaws and can be reached easily via an inner hexagon. The gear has two speeds. Thus the jaws are closed first with large stroke and small force to roughly adjust the blank in order to subsequently fix it in place using a small stroke and large clamping force.
Röhm GmbH from Sontheim an der Brenz is a pioneer and trendsetter in this field. With technically mature clamping equipment – from the smallest drill chuck through rotating chucks, compact clamps, state-of-the-art clamping systems to high-tech clamping equipment and a large potential in the field of custom-made designs – the experts from Southern Germany support production companies and specialist retailers all over the world.
Johann Taglang: “The positioning, supporting and clamping demands made on workpiece clamping systems are growing all the time. To be able to continue the production at a high-quality level but remain economical, high-precision clamping solutions such as mechanical heavy-duty spindles (MKS) are required.

The Röhm clamping jaws with MKS are available in the sizes 65 mm, 80 mm, 100 mm, 120 mm, 160 mm and 200 mm. This means that a total clamping force of up to 2,000 kN can be achieved on a respective face plate using four clamping jaws. The clamping torque required is only 180 Nm, however.

Koheras AdjustiK Benchtop – Narrow Linewidth, Low Noise, Single Frequency Fiber Laser.

The AdjustiK™ system are narrow linewidth fiber laser turn-key benchtop systems based on a truly single mode, single frequency DFB (Distributed-Feedback) Fiber Laser with extremely high frequency stability and low phase and intensity noise.

The Koheras AdjustiK™ System is a single stage amplified system with up to 200 mW of output power, whereas the Koheras BoostiK™ System is based on dual stage amplification with up to 2 W of output power.

This range of benchtop laser systems is typically offered as rapidly deployable sources for research laboratories that wish to use it as a tool for scientific work and not spend time on setting up a laser system. The benchtop models are based on the Koheras BasiK™ Module seed technology and are upgradable in terms of output power. The systems are supplied with Koheras GraphiK™ software for the control and read-out of numerous laser parameters on a pc such as wavelength, output power, and RIN suppression.

A part from interferometric sensing and LIDAR, these laser systems are very useful sources for various scientific applications (more information available in the application section).

The advantages of Koheras fiber lasers are:

Longitudinal single mode & single frequency operation
Burst noise and mode-hop free operation
Unprecedented low frequency and intensity noise
Shut-noise limited solutions Ultra narrow linewidth (<1 kHz / 120 µs) High free-running wavelength stability (~ 0,1 pm / °C) Linear and mode-hop free thermal tuning (up to 800 pm) Piezo tuning capability (kHz modulation e.g. for frequency locking) Polarisation Maintaining Output All-fiber coupled solutions and limited maintenance Remote digital control Active RIN suppression Multiplexing capabilities & modularity Low power consumption Very compact and robust design
