  • Independent top-class pressure regulator

Witt has developed a pressure regulator for use with acetylene systems, providing a very high flow rate without the need of a pilot gas.

The new version of the ADR 150 high-flow manifold pressure regulator is capable of delivering acetylene flow rates of up to 150m3 per hour without the need for a pilot gas – meaning no separate shielding or inert gas is required for piloting the pipeline pressure. This is now done using a permanently elastic stop spring, enabling the user to save on costs and to reduce production and logistics efforts.

Witt’s General Manager, Christian Flücken said “The ADR 150 pressure regulator is the most powerful independent pressure regulator in the world”.

Manifold pressure regulators reduce the pressure of gas cylinder manifolds or bundles (packs) to the level required for individual applications.

The ADR 150 is designed for use in a number of industrial applications and processes, where acetylene is required with high flow rates, including the manufacture of plastics. Acetylene is also extensively used with high flow rates as a fuel gas for autogenous welding and gas cutting.

This new pressure regulator meets TRAC and DIN ISO 14114 standards and can be installed in main pressure regulator stations. Independently of the inlet pressure and flow rate, this regulator maintains the set outlet pressure at constant levels allowing a safe gas supply to outlet stations. To prevent overpressure, this regulator has an integrated, standard compliant and type tested pressure-relief valve.

  • Accurate Flow Measurement In Limited Space Installations

FS100 Flow Straightener Establishes Accurate Flow Measurement In Limited Space Installations

Ideal For Water Metering in Agriculture Applications

Hemet, CA—February 18, 2010–To help agriculture districts, well drillers and flow meter installers cope with the latest water metering conservation programs, the FS100 Flow Straightener from McCrometer provides advanced flow conditioning technology in support of new and retrofit flow meter installations.

The FS100 Flow Straightener allows irrigators to add flow meters in tight locations where the existing straight pipe run is insufficient to provide accurate measurement. When inserted upstream from a new flow meter, the FS100 typically reduces the necessary straight pipe run requirement for accurate measurement to only 1.5 straight pipe diameters upstream and 0-0.5 downstream.

Nearly all liquid/water flow meter technologies require installation with 10 to more than 40 straight pipe diameters upstream from the meter and 5 or more straight pipe diameters downstream. These straight pipe runs are required in order to eliminate the effects of swirl and other pipeline disturbances caused by pumps, elbows, valves and other devices that negatively affect liquid flow measurement accuracy.

Depending on the type of liquid flow meter in use, the FS100 reduces typical installation piping and labor costs by more than 50 percent. Many times the need to insert a new flow meter into existing piping also can be extremely costly because it requires moving other equipment such as pumps or valves. In addition, to avoid the extra cost of pipe materials and technician installation labor, any disruptions in water service may be minimized with the use of a flow straightener.

The FS100 is a cone-shaped 304 stainless steel device designed for low head loss and withstands pressures up to 150 psi maximum in 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-inch line sizes.

The flow straightener is installed a minimum of 1.5 pipe diameters upstream from the meter and conditions the fluid to remove any flow profile irregularities, such as swirl, prior to measurement by the flow meter. It is suitable for use near chemigation valves, out of plane elbows, full open butterfly valves and gate valves.

  • Sprint Touch Pro2 Windows Mobile 6.5 update leaked

image This week has been spectacular for CDMA users, first the leaked Sense 2.5 ROM details, and now a Sprint 6.5 ROM. This ROM originates from the guys at PPCgeeks, and they seemed to have somehow gotten their hands on a test build of the sprint Windows Mobile 6.5 Touch Pro2 update. The build is a very old one, from late last year, 21210 to be exact. The ROM, unlike the Verizon Wirelesses version, it does not include 2.5, only Sense 2.1,which means it is that old.

This might not be news to most, but the Sprint Touch Pro2 would most be rejoicing because they can finally see a ROM in sight, but just a little late. The Sprint costumers, comment and tell us what you think about this development.

  • NYC (Finally) Creates System For Giving Press Passes To Online Journalists

A year and a half ago, we wrote about some online/alternative journalists who sued the NYC Police Department because of a refusal to give those journalists press passes. As we noted at the time, it was difficult to see the legal justification for the lawsuit. Just because you are a reporter (alternative, online or traditional) it doesn’t mean that the city has to grant you press access. This upset some folks in the comments who thought I was supporting the idea that “bloggers aren’t journalists” or that this was somehow a free speech issue. It was not. The reporters were absolutely free to report on whatever they wanted and say whatever they wanted, but that did not mean that anyone had to grant them access. Hell, I even thought that the NYC police were wrong in not granting these journalists access — but that didn’t mean it was illegal.

Soon after that lawsuit was filed, the police backed down anyway and granted those journalists access, making the lawsuit somewhat meaningless, though it continued. Separately, however, a lawsuit in California proved the point that being a journalist does not give you the right to unfettered access, such as at crime scenes.

So, when one of the journalists involved in the original lawsuit, David Wallis, sent in a submission this week declaring Masnick was wrong!!!!, I thought I’d check it out — since everything had indicated that I was not wrong. However, it appears that Wallis also seems confused about the difference between what the NYC Police should do and what they’re legally required to do. The reason for the email is that NYC has smartly put in place rules and procedures for credentialing online journalists as part of the agreement to settle the lawsuit.

I think this is an absolute good thing — and a smart move. If anything, I’m sort of surprised that such a policy didn’t already exist. But, unlike Wallis’ claim, this does not change my stance on the original lawsuit. While it may have pressured NYC into putting in place a policy, that doesn’t mean there was any legal leg to stand on in the lawsuit. As I said, I always thought that the police should have given credentials to these journalists — and should have had a policy in place for giving credentials to journalists who meet certain criteria, even if they’re not employed by the traditional media. But that does not mean that the police have to give access to anyone who declares themselves a journalist. So I’m happy for Wallis and the other journalists that NY has changed its policy and made it more reasonable in response to the lawsuit, but that doesn’t change the likelihood that the original lawsuit was not going anywhere on a legal basis.

  • Geneva 2010: Ruf RGT-8 is a V8-powered, 550-hp 911

Ruf RGT-8 – Click above for a high-res image gallery

Over the last decade, Ruf has created two versions of the Porsche 911 bearing the RGT moniker. The first was a 385-hp, 3.6-liter 996 and the second was a 445-hp 997. Now, the supercar manufacturer (don’t call ’em a tuner) has created its third iteration, the RGT-8, and it’s the firm’s most impressive engineering feat to date.

Nestled within the back of Stuttgart’s finest, Ruf has managed to squeeze in a 4.5-liter V8 putting out 550 horsepower at its 8,500-rpm redline and 367 pound-feet of torque at 5,400 rpm. The 180-degree, flatcrank V8 is apparently custom designed by Ruf and comes complete with titanium connecting rods, a dry-sump lubrication system and spherical heads. And not only does it meet both U.S. and European emission standards, the whole swap is reportedly 80 pounds lighter than the 3.8-liter boxer-six it replaces.

A custom interior, integrated roll cage, 19-inch Ruf wheels (wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cups) and carbon ceramic brakes (among a host of other mods) round out the package. Although Ruf isn’t quoting performance figures or putting a sticker on the RGT-8 yet, we’ve gotten word that production is set to begin in 2011 and orders are currently being booked. We’re buying a lottery ticket in Lausanne right now.

  • Super Car Sunday features Ferrari as honored marque *UPDATE

Maddox parks Enzo number three at Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills – Click above for high-res gallery

Now that they’ve found a new home for Super Car Sunday at the Westfield Promenade in Woodland Hills, CA, the guys and gals behind the show have made a few changes – all for the better. The show is more official now, with local Ferrari dealer The Auto Gallery actually covering rent for the event, which is held in the mall parking lot every Sunday from 7-10 am. There are also signs all around that list the rules so there is no confusion when someone gets kicked out for bad behavior. Another big change is that they are now honoring a different marque on the last Sunday of each month.

For February the marquee marque was Ferrari. Drawing owners from as much as 100 miles away, the Ferrari corral featured well over 100 examples of Enzo’s handiwork. While just about every other make and model was represented in the main part of the lot, the Ferrari selection was rather eclectic as well. Anyone who might have thought that Ferraris only came in red were treated to quite a surprise as there were samples of Maranello’s finest in white, silver, gray, blue, yellow and even flat black, among others. One of the gray cars was the very same 512 BB we featured parked in its award-winning garage with the bridge driveway that might have to come down.

There’s a huge gallery below with photos of just a small sampling of the Prancing Horses that made it out to the show, with a Dino, Daytona, Drago-bodied GT and a couple others representing the old guard and two-and-a-half Enzos (above), an F40, 16Ms, Californias, Scuderias, F430s, Challenge Stradales, 599s, and a spiffy two-tone 612 kickin’ it new school. In between there were enough 308, 328, 348, 355, 360, 456, 550/575 and Testarossa/512 models to keep the carparazzi busy for hours.

It wasn’t all Ferraris though. A rare red Porsche Carrera GT, Rust Rocket rat rod, Grand Sport Corvette replica and Ultima showed the diversity, while a few cars caught our eyes for all the wrong reasons. All in all a very cool show and a great turnout for Ferrari fans. Hopefully we’ll be able to make this a regular Sunday stop from now on.

  • Geneva 2010: Fornasari Racing Buggy and RR66 represent opposite end of Geneva spectrum

Fornasari Racing Buggy concept – click above for high-res image gallery

Here’s the brass tacks: When we like a show car, we like it. Case in point, we’re still semi-drunk on car show pleasure from the fleeting moments we were lucky enough to spend looking at the Bertone Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept. Flip side of that coin, if we dislike something, we tell the world. As for this here pair of Fornasaris, well, we sure as hell ain’t talking about the lusty Pandion.

First up is the crayola orange and two-tone gray Racing Buggy and… it’s better than the Fornasari RR66 that we’ll be slicing into momentarily. Honestly, this sick puppy looks like Cadillac’s Art & Science team redesigned the Isuzu VehiCross with a blunt chisel, though the front and the back are actually pretty sharply crafted. Since that’s about the nicest thing we have to say, we’ll move on to the RR66.

Dude, seriously? The navy blue RR66 is one of those rare show cars that we just can’t believe ever made it out of the Mac Book Pro, let alone anything resembling a design studio. Did the designer down a bottle of scotch while staring at the Spyker Peking-Paris SUV long enough for that ugly duckling to look good? Yes. But never mind the awkward, two-door SUV proportions, check out the rotten detailing.

The wood used for the RR66’s sills and cargo box is not the exquisite stuff used to line the innards of the Audi A7 Coastline Concept. In fact, it looks like it fell off the same tree we used to make a chessboard out of in 8th grade. But unlike our highly praised chessboard (hi mom!), Fornasari didn’t even varnish the stuff. That’s just lazy, and we hate lazy. We also hate the last-minute-afterthought pressed-in slumlord rear window. OK, it’s late and we’re running low on hate-juice, but you get the idea. How do you kids say it? FAIL.

  • Geneva 2010: Wiesmann GT MF4-S gives ’em something to talk about

Wiesmann GT MF4-S – Click above for high-res image gallery

With all the hullabaloo – yes, hullabaloo – about the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, it would’ve been all too easy to assume the new gullwing is the only retro German sportscar on the market. But forgetting the Wiesmann GT would be a cardinal sin and capital offense, because the niche-market sportscar is among the most tantalizing on the road. While the design may be decidedly old-school, Wiesmann works tirelessly to keep it fresh with successive updates to propel this time-machine well past the requisite 88 miles per hour and out from the past and into the present.

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the small German outfit rolled out the modestly updated GT MF4-S. New bi-xenon headlamps show the way home and a new automatically- or manually-actuated retractable spoiler keeps the tail planted. Under the hood, the MF4-S is treated to the same 4.0-liter, 420-horsepower V8 as the BMW M3 from which it’s sourced and, more poignantly, the MF4-S Roadster. All in all not major changes, but then who ever said the Wiesmann needed much changed?

The Wiesmann GT MF4-S will push you to highway speeds in four seconds flat and cost 133,000 euros (equivalent to about $175k). If that’s too rich for your blood, you can take a gander in the galleries below and browse the details in the press release after the jump.
