  • Prince Slams Madonna: Old Feud Raised?

Prince has delivered new music unto us, and we are all eternally grateful. He has also delivered catty remarks about celebrities to us, and for that, we are even more grateful.

The web has jumped all over a recent interview Prince did with Billboard Magazine, in which he talks smack about his old rival/former girlfriend Madonna and gets in a dig at Maroon 5 for being gauche enough to cover other people’s songs, even though Prince himself has done numerous covers which went on to be hits.

When talking about his old relationship with Warner Brothers, Prince also called out Madge, sort of:

“It was also about Madonna,” he says. “She was getting paid, but at the time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights. It wasn’t about her. This was about business.”

About Maroon 5, who included a cover of his song “Kiss” on their latest album much to his dismay, Prince said:

“I do pay performance royalties on others’ songs I perform live, but I’m not recording these songs and putting them up for sale,” he says. “Why do we need to hear another cover of a song that someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what’s already there.” At this point he references Maroon 5′s cover of his “Kiss,” letting it be known that he wasn’t thrilled by it.

Of course, Prince has done covers himself, including the hit “Betcha By Golly Wow!”, “La-La (Means I Love You)”, Joan Osborne’s “One of Us”, and Sheryl Crow’s “Everyday Is a Winding Road.”

The comments about Madonna are what everyone is interested in, however, since the two of them famously dated briefly in the ’80s before turning on one another in the public eye. Madge is quoted in a discussion about their first date as saying Prince was a “little troll” who didn’t eat his dinner.

“He was just sipping tea, very daintily,” Madonna said. “I have this theory about people who don’t eat. They annoy me.”

No word yet from the superstar on what she thinks about his comments or his comeback.

  • Woods, Vonn Dating? Or Is He Trying To Win Elin Back?

Tiger Woods has the rumor mill grinding away once more as talk spreads across the web that he’s dating Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.

A “source” says the two have been an item since November and are starting to get serious:

“Their busy schedules mean they don’t get a lot of time together, but they constantly talk on the phone. And Tiger has made more of a commitment to Lindsey lately — he’s pulling out all the stops.”

The source also says the two met on the slopes, as Tiger is an avid skier, and that Vonn has been teaching his two children everything she knows. Obviously, the source says, Vonn is aware of the golfer’s past and it took her a while to trust him.

But this story goes against another one making the rounds that Woods is trying to woo back his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, after a nasty divorce due to his cheating ways. After winning around $100 million in the settlement, she began building a mansion in North Palm Beach and seemed to be moving on.

Woods hasn’t made a statement regarding the rumors of his relationship with Vonn, but Vonn’s representatives neither confirmed nor denied it.

“Lindsey is currently in the midst of the World Cup season in Europe,” the statement read. “Her focus is solely on competing and on defending her titles and thus she will not participate in any speculation surrounding her personal life at this time.”

  • Lego Racism: Turkish Leaders Upset Over Toy

It’s a tricky business, creating characters and surroundings that don’t resemble actual, real-life people or places. When the characters and settings in a film or television show do questionable things, it’s especially important to make it clear that everything is original, from someone’s imagination.

But sometimes, things slip through the cracks, and a Turkish group says that the Lego company has been marketing a highly offensive toy with racist undertones.

The toy in question–a Lego Star Wars set–is said to include a structure (well, pieces to build a structure) which closely resembles the Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul as well as the Jami al-Kabir mosque in Beirut. The toy is Jabba the Hutt’s Palace, and the Turkish Cultural Community of Austria says that character reinforces negative stereotypes of Middle-Eastern people.

“The terrorist Jabba the Hutt likes to smoke a hookah and have his victims killed,” said the statement posted on the organisation’s website. “It is clear that the ugly figure of Jabba and the whole scene smacks of racial prejudice and vulgar insinuations against Asians and Orientals as people with deceitful and criminal personalities.”

The group has contacted Lego and has asked that the toys be removed from shelves, threatening legal action. However, Lego denies any intentional resemblance between the toy and a real landmark.

“The Lego Star Wars product Jabba´s Palace does not reflect any actually existing buildings, people, or the mentioned mosque,” a rep for the company said in a statement. “The Lego mini-figures are all modelled on characters from the movie.
“We regret that the product has caused the members of the Turkish cultural community to come to a wrong interpretation, but point out that when designing the product only the fictional content of the Star Wars saga were referred to.”

The Lego news comes around the same time eBay is having some difficulty of their own; the online auction site has banned the sale of “Django Unchained” dolls, due to an overwhelming response from users who say the toys are racist. However, that’s not stopping motivated sellers, who are simply taking the ban as an opportunity to jack up the price under a “rare” label.

  • Fake J.C. Penney Prices Are No More, Store Says

It’s a rather sneaky way of doing business, but getting into the heads of customers and making them think they’ve gotten a better deal than they actually have is something retailers have been doing for decades. Rather than putting a fixed price on an item, they’ll put an original price–often jacked up to twice what they’re really selling it for–as well as a sale price. Finding a cute top for $40 is much more of a steal when you find it marked down to $15 or $20, right?

That’s what retailers are hoping you’ll think, and the practice is called “anchoring”, meaning your perception of the item’s value is set right away. Seeing it marked down to half or less than half off means you’re more likely to buy it, even if you might not need it, and in today’s economic downturn, that’s the last thing shoppers want to do.

Stores are catching on to what their customers want, however, and J.C. Penney is one of them. Part of a new overhaul for their entire system includes pricing items at what they actually are–”Everyday Prices”–which will not be reduced in weekly sales. Instead, the store will conduct month-long sales on certain items, and clearance sales will be on the first and third Friday of every month. Every item will have a new simplified tag to keep customers from getting confused, and that includes setting prices at a flat number instead of ending in .99.

J.C. Penney saw a sharp decline in sales over the past several months compared to their competitors, and Ron Johnson, C.E.O., admits he knows why.

“Our stores are tired; they haven’t been updated,” he said. “So customers ignored us 99 percent of the time. At some point, you, as a brand, look desperate if you have to market that much.”

  • McDonald’s Fish Now All-Sustainable

Ever wondered what type of fish you’re getting when you order “Filet-O-Fish” at McDonald’s? Well, now you’ll know: wild Alaskan Pollack, which is now sustainable.

The fast-food chain announced recently that they are now serving the Filet-O-Fish sandwich–and will be unveiling “Fish McBites” soon–using only fish that was sustainably caught, making it eco-friendly. The company will pay annual fees to the Marine Stewardship Council for the privilege of placing a bright blue “Certified Sustainable Seafood” label on the containers, which lets customers know that what they’re eating not only meets high standards for quality, it was also taken with care from the ecosystem.

McDonald’s is set to unveil the Fish McBites in February for a limited time, but if they go over well, the restaurant could keep them on the menu for good. After a tough last quarter–in which sales were down from the same time last year–McD’s brought back the McRib sandwich off-schedule, knowing it would help reign in some diehard fans. Still, they don’t expect the coming year to magically take off, either.

“By no means do we think 2013 is going to be an easy year,” CEO Don Thompson said.

McDonald’s is joining competitors Wendy’s and Taco Bell in reinventing their menu, changing up the offerings to include healthier fare after receiving bad press in recent years due to customers complaining of health concerns. They say they’re also revamping stores all across the country, updating the look and offering longer hours.

  • Michael Buble: Baby On The Way, According To Video

Michael Buble is going to be a proud papa.

The 37-year old crooner and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, announced the news via a brief YouTube video, which shows several seconds of Luisana’s ultrasound.

“We’re having a baby Buble!” read the caption on the video, which was posted on Michael’s site.

The singer has said that he has always wanted kids, but wanted to keep the pressure off his wife so that she could think about it when she was ready.

“I’ve said to her a million times I’d love to have kids,” Bublé said. “But I always say to her when you’re ready — when you feel like you’ve lived and you’ve partied and done all the things you want to do. When you’ve worked your butt off, then tell me.”

Buble’s stunning bride also announced the news on her Facebook page:

I wanted to share with you this great joy with which God has blessed our families and us. Thanks to my family for being with me in every second of my anxiety for wanting to tell, and take care of me with love as they do every day. Thanks to my friends for being as happy as me and giving me the most beautiful hugs. And thanks to God for giving me one of the most beautiful joys and opportunities that a woman can get.

  • Gorgeous Artwork Made With Only The Artist’s Eyes

It’s pretty amazing, the things humans are capable of when inspiration and the desire to create are strong enough. One artist, Francis Tsai, has come up with a way to make art using only his eyes after the effects of Lou Gehrig’s Disease took away his ability to draw in a more common way.

Incredibly, Tsai first learned to draw with his feet after realizing he couldn’t use his hands anymore, but that became too much, as well. Using ground-breaking software from Tobii which allows eye-tracking to be combined with a computer interface, Tsai figured out how to get what was in his head out into the world using only his eye movements.

According to Tobii’s website: An eye tracker is a device that uses projection patterns and optical sensors to gather data about gaze direction or eye movements with very high accuracy. Most eye trackers are based on the fundamental principle of corneal-reflection tracking. The eye gaze provides a very efficient way of pointing. We do it all the time in interaction with other humans. Eye tracking technology enables us to use our gaze in interaction with computers and machines. It’s fast, intuitive and natural.

Tsai talks a bit about his journey on his blog; you can buy his prints here. The proceeds go towards his medical care.

  • Shakira Baby Photo: Will He Follow In Dad’s Footsteps?

Shakira, who just gave birth to her son Milan this week, revealed a photo of the baby…sort of.

The pic shows Milan’s feet, clad in supercool kicks that have his name embroidered on them. Of course, he won’t have much use for shoes for a while, but fancy footwear runs in the family; his dad, Gerard Pique, is a soccer star in Spain.

The Columbian hip-shaker posted an announcement on Twitter and on her website after Milan was born, explaining the origin of his name and confirming that he was born healthy and happy.

“The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification…Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth. The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health.”

Shakira wasn’t shy about taking to the stage while she was with child; last October, she showed off her belly to the crowd at a performance in Baku, Azerbaijan and let them know she was staying in good shape during the pregnancy.

  • Bethenny Frankel: Divorce Is Getting Ugly

Bethenny Frankel officially filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Jason Hoppy, just a few weeks ago. But Hoppy has now filed “aggressive” divorce papers of his own and is asking for everything she’s asking for, including primary custody of their daughter, Bryn.

Hoppy also wants child support payments from Frankel, medical and dental insurance-related bills, and is asking for himself and Bryn to be the beneficiaries of a continued life insurance policy for Frankel. The new papers are also asking for Hoppy to be afforded primary residence at their $5 million home in NYC. If that’s not enough, he wants Frankel to foot the bill for his lawyers and accountant.

Luckily, Frankel and Hoppy had a prenuptial agreement before they married, so her $100 million fortune is safe. The former “Real Housewives” star has made quite a success of her brand, which includes several books, the Skinnygirl alcohol and clothing line, and a daytime talk show.

Frankel released a statement when divorce loomed imminent, saying, “It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating. This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.”

  • Shaggy Not Dead, Twitter Users Can Relax

A death-hoax is making the rounds once again, and once again, singer Shaggy is the victim.

The “Wasn’t Me” singer has been on the receiving end of the hoax a couple of times now but fans can rest assured that he’s still kickin’ despite an internet rumor that he was stabbed during a barfight. An update to Shaggy’s Wikipedia page caused a lot of confusion, however, as the prankster behind the hoax updated his bio to include his death date. The page has since been changed.

Fans and curious Twitter users took to the social media site to discuss, exclaim, and mourn the performer before word got out that it was all a hoax:
